There are 8 horizontal lanes and 5 vertical lanes in the core complex. In every elegant residential house, there are sculptures on the door head, carved windows in the wall, as well as plaques, poems and painting works hung on the wall.

 

The village has preserved more than 60 ancient buildings, including Gensuo Academy, west-wing chamber and He Family’s ancestor hall.

 

The ancient village was built during the period of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty, about 600 years ago. He Zixiu, a native of Daozhou in the Yuan Dynasty, was an official of a state-run school in Guiyang and stayed here after his retirement.

 

His son, He Hai, led the family to build Yangshan Village.

 

Later, He Tianlu, the sixth generation from He Zixiu, opened Gensuo Academy to cultivate talent and brought glory to the He Family.

 

Over hundreds of years, Yangshan Village has been a place that values culture, education, martial spirit, moralities and etiquette. Some civil organizations have been formed voluntarily not only to inherit Chinese culture and moralities but also to civilize villagers, including societies for women, education, family affairs and drug rehabilitation.

 

In recent years, the village has taken the opportunity from the construction of a 4A scenic area to develop tourism. Thanks to improving infrastructure and living environment, the village has attracted a constant stream of tourists.

 

Yangshan Ancient Village has achieved an annual collective income of 200,000 yuan. And the per capita disposable income of villagers reached 24,145 yuan last year.
